ADVENT WITH CHILDREN by Candice Duffy

Candice isn't able to post today and may not post tomorrow either. The stomach bug has come to her house to wreak havoc.  Her husband is gone this week on business, and in her words, she is "single parenting it with 3 stomach bugs (herself included), one ear infection, one case of croup, a demon child on steroids, 2 doctor visits, and the busiest school week of the semester."  No wonder she can't seem to find the time (or the feel-like-it) to study a passage of scripture and make an ornament with her children!

Perhaps the advent lesson is for the mama (and any of you other adults) instead of the children.  The lesson is GRACE...not only the riches God gave us at Christ's expense, but another kind of grace: the grace to not be perfect, the grace to model the Word rather than read it aloud these few days, the grace to be kind and gentle when everything in you wants to scream and just go to bed, the grace to show patience when a little one is crying at 2 a.m. and will only stop if you hold and cuddle her, and the grace to wash yet another load of puked-on sheets.

Can you identify?  Just add your circumstances to this situation, and give yourself some grace.  It's ok.  It's not as though you have turned your back on God.  We all have bad days.  Take some time to just "be still and know He is God."  Now is the time to "be."  The "doing" can come back tomorrow.
