ADVENT WITH CHILDREN by Candice Duffy

Day 10
Joseph's Dream
Today we are again reading Matthew 1:18-25.  Yesterday, we really focused on the type of man Joseph was. Today, we focused on the dream he had where an angel gave him two instructions: he was to not be afraid to take Mary as his wife and he was to name his son Jesus. Joseph, just like Mary, did not hesitate. He chose to obey. We talked about how we should be quick to obey too. My children listed people in their lives they should obey and why it is important to obey. I am reminded of my daughter's definition of obedience she had to learn in school - "Obedience is doing what you're told to do with a happy heart." That "happy heart" part can be quite a challenge, sometimes, but it's a huge part of being fully obedient! What a challenge for us all! Today, we made a pillow ornament as a reminder of Joseph's dream. When God gives us instruction, it is always best to obey.
