ADVENT WITH CHILDREN by Candice Duffy

Day 2
Jesus is King

Day 2 uses the same passage of scripture from yesterday: Isaiah 9:2-7. This was great because it allowed us to reflect on what we learned yesterday and build on that. Today we focused on verses 6-7. This is where we learn that Jesus came to be King, to rule and reign in our lives forever. We discussed all the names of Jesus mentioned in this passage: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace. My children were able to explain that these were descriptions of a good king as opposed to a bad king. As we made our crown ornament, we took turns thinking up other descriptive names for Jesus: "Kind, Compassionate, Love, Savior, Baby Jesus, makes boo boos better, brings the sun back after storms, Protector, Mighty, Loyal, Faithful, My Friend." I'll let you guess which ones 3 yr. old Noah came up with! It was exciting to see my children realize that we serve a good God. He is indeed a good King! From things as simple as making our boo boos better to being a faithful and just ruler, he is a King who truly cares for his people.
