If you look at the context of this scripture, David was experiencing problems - his strength was failing and enemies were plotting against him. Pretty severe problems for a king! Yet he professed that his hope was in God. And even before God answered these current problems, he chose to praise God more and more.
I seem to keep hearing over and over about praising God and being thankful IN the dire circumstances even BEFORE God answers. How about you?
